For those who just can’t seem to figure out what the Second Amendment is really about they might try reading the Preamble to the first Ten Amendments of Bill of Rights:
“THE Conventions of a number of the States,
having at the time of their adopting the Constitution, expressed a desire, in order to prevent misconstruction or
abuse of its powers, that further declaratory and restrictive clauses
should be added: And as extending the ground of public confidence in the
Government, will best ensure the beneficent ends of its institution.” (Bolding
added)
What was “its powers” they wanted to prevent the misconstruction
or abuse of? It was the
“A well regulated
Militia, being necessary to the security of a
Notice, the security
of a
Notice, the use of the
unlimited term “Arms” rather than the more limiting term “rifles” or “sticks”
or “cannons” or “sling shots.” Arms meant military arms like all the militaries
in the world had at the time and which they will have in the future. If he
Second Amendment is to connect with its intended purpose as so stated in the
Preamble and the body of the amendment, it would by necessity mean all types of
military arms and weapons.
And this is also
verified by Federalist Letter #29 dedicated to the Militia written by Alexander
Hamilton.
